The modern world's unceasing crises have led to a collective numbing. Australians, like many others, have grown indifferent to the climate crisis due to the overwhelming nature of ongoing 'permacrisis.' This apathy has acted as a protective shield against the distressing realities. "Future Forecast," a campaign tailored to pierce through the veil of normalisation, to display starkly the consequences of continued inaction on fossil fuels.
The concept behind "Future Forecast" is more than a campaign; it is a call-to-action, smartly interwoven in daily routines, prompting Australians to confront a once-ignored crisis. A social media campaign and a regular radio weather forecast carried an unexpected twist, seamlessly guiding listeners towards the Fossil Fuels Non-Proliferation Treaty. The curious are greeted online with a blend of urgency and activism. An ever-ticking countdown intensified the message's weight, while a meticulously crafted petition waited for their signature.
A seemingly absurd product, SPF 1000+ sunscreen, was introduced. A level so high it symbolised skin's vulnerability in a deteriorated climate. This wasn't just a mock product; it became a metaphor for the blazing future awaiting inaction. Each bottle, holding a petition in place of ingredients, is a cry for change. The campaign challenges widespread apathy towards the ongoing climate crisis. By interweaving the urgency into daily routines, like listening to the radio or thinking about sunscreen, it serves as a regular reminder of the looming threat of inaction.
